FLAT FILE SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 BOB SCHNEIDER FF 5

At Flatbed Press, we house over 100 drawers—our “flat files”—filled with original prints by a wide range of artists. These prints represent an incredible variety of styles, techniques, and voices in contemporary printmaking.

Flat File Saturdays are special days when we highlight one artist from our collection. We open their drawer, carefully pull out their prints, and display them for visitors to explore. It’s a chance to see work up close, learn more about the artist’s process, and engage in meaningful conversations about printmaking.

This Saturday, September 27, we open Bob Schenider’s flat file which is full of his amazing etchings created in residency at Flatbed. Bob Schneider is an Austin-based musician and visual artist known for his bold, eclectic style that blends pop culture, humor, and abstraction. A note from Bob on his practice: "To begin with I have no idea as to what the work is going to look like when I start. I begin drawing whatever comes to mind. It is very random. It’s also a bit of an adventure. Like traveling into the unknown. I try to make the journey as interesting as I can by using images that scare me or make me laugh or make me think, "What the hell am I thinking?” As the work progresses the images begin to suggest other images and this goes on and on until I feel that it is done (the hardest part is knowing when to stop). As a result, I become rather attached to the work.. This is why printmaking is so appealing. I get to keep a copy for myself." Working with Flatbed’s master printers, he has translated his expressive, layered style into limited edition prints, gaining recognition in the contemporary art scene for his bold imagery and distinctive voice.
