Community Press Residencies

Self sponsored and independent work in Flatbed’s Community Shop

Residencies in the Community Press give artists Key-Holder access to the facility after training and orientation to the equipment. Keyholder membership is ideal for someone who has experience in a printmaking studio, has an active studio practice, and can demonstrate their technical skills. Keyholder members enjoy independent access to the studio 24/7 with key codes to the space. The resident artist will be able to create a body of work using the resources of the Community Press.  Depending on the agreement, the artist can also exhibit the work created during the residency through Flatbed Center’s Gallery.

During this residency, artists work on an independent basis to produce their own prints and therefore must be at least 18 years of age or older. A one month commitment is required. The Community Press at  Flatbed is designed specifically for individuals who have demonstrated an appropriate level of experience in printmaking and are granted access to work in one or more printmaking techniques, including relief, lithography, intaglio, monotype, and screenprinting. While not all new members or artists have extensive experience in their chosen medium, we do require that they have the ability to use the facilities correctly, independently, safely, and with consideration for other members.

Included in Residency

Artists receive a 3-hour intensive tutorial with one of our printers in an area of their choosing. It can be used as a refresher for a certain technique or a deep dive, one on one, session in a new area an artist is interested in for their professional practice.
