Unfolding the Rainbow of Motherhood

It is Flatbed’s great pleasure to announce the publication of a series of monoprints created by Kyle Howley at our press. Kyle Hawley takes on the often hush-hush topic of Motherhood to unfold the tools of that calling imbued with the range of inherent emotive colors. Using mono-printing techniques, Hawley prints directly from cloth utility accessories and garments that she designed and created to assist in mothering. The seven images are life-sized, contemporary statements that unfold Motherhood’s time, energy, joy, grief, whimsy, and purpose. We are grateful to PayPal for the beautiful video documenting part of Hawley’s process.

Kyle writes: “These images are pressed from my indispensable set of tools. I employ them to bring my best self to the job and identity of Motherhood. They have been folded and unfolded many times and across many places to provide comfort, play and practical use. Motherhood is my great gift. It is an honor and a challenge. I too have been washed in color, pressed, folded, unfolded, and reimagined in the pursuit of Motherhood.

Our recent exhibition of the complete suite of works is available for exhibition or purchase as a suite.
