New Adrian Armstrong Etching!

NY 001

Adrian Armstong, “NY 001”, chine collé soft-ground and aquatint etching, monotype and drawing, edition of 16, image 36 x 24 inches, paper Rives BFK 44 x 30 inches.

Flatbed is excited to announce a new etching by Adrian Armstrong. Titled “NY 001”, Armstrong continues to explore relationships through portraiture. This etching was created in an edition of 14. Armstrong drew the key image directly onto a copper plate which was etched to hold his detailed line work. He created the patterns used throughout the print on lightweight Asian papers that he printed with leaves. The different patterns were “stitched” together to create the multi-colored garment that is chine colléd into the print. The warm skin tones and background areas were etched in separate plates using aquatint. Armstrong drew the gold earring by hand onto each print!

“NY 001” will be featured in Flatbed’s upcoming exhibition, Flatbed Press: A Selection of Contemporary Prints,” at Lamar University’s Dishman Gallery which runs September 22 until November 4, 2023.
